October Field Notes

·      The teacher decided to move all the students today , since she tries to change students seating at least once a month. Jayden now sits next to multilingual learners and another student with a disability.  The other student with a disability, Alixandria, does not talk to other students at all and she keeps to herself a lot.  Jayden  has to go to all of his SPED classes with this   introverted.
student, but their relationship is still pretty dry because Alixandria is very shy and
·      The teacher placed the students in group activities for the students to  go around the classroom and look for nouns. On a white board students were to list the items they found that were nouns.
·      Jayden was trying hard to get Alixandria to participate with him and tell him things she found, but Alixandria didn’t say much. I noticed the effort in his ability to get his work done, but I also noticed that he was trying to keep his partner involved. Relationships are important to Jayden, and Jayden likes for others to do what he does.
·      I came up to their group and noted that  Jayden’s white board was very full, and not legible and asked him to tell me what he had found. He excitedly told me all of the nouns that he had found around the room.

·      Most of the students are very excited for their trip to the pumpkin patch tomorrow(Friday October 21). The class learned all day about the pumpkin life cycle and their writing today
consisted of pumpkins.
·      I observed Jayden today while he did his writing since he seems to struggle a bit with literacy including writing.  In writing he wrote about a time he went to the pumpkin patch with his mom and  the pumpkin he  found. I helped Jayden with his writing and sounding out words .
·      Every time Jayden would write out a word by himself I would tell him “good job!” or tell him “you are so smart!”  he would get excited and more motivated to do his work
·     Jayden finished his writing and then was able to draw a picture of his story. He finished his drawing and then colored it. He was very proud of his work and  went to go show the teacher. He came back and  asked if he could take his work home to show his mom, but I told him we would need to have the teacher keep it for a while then he could take it home. He was very excited and proud of his work

  • ·      Jayden’s friend Yunus’ birthday is today and his friend brought cupcakes that he was going
to share with all of the class. Yunus
did not give Jayden the cupcake flavor that he wanted and thus this made Jayden upset with Yunus.
  • ·      When it was time for reading time with partners, Jayden did not want to partner up with Yunus and thus decided to read by himself. Jayden was reading  in pauses. Approximately every 2 or 3 minutes Jayden would look up to what Yunus was doing, since Yunus was reading with a different partner.
  • ·      Jayden  was distracted by most of the reading time and  did not spend much time on reading because he  seemed to be thinking about his friendship with Yunus.
